Description
ECPAT International provides technical support and coordination for a global alliance of 109 member groups and coalitions in 96 countries around the world. They claim to be the only child right’s organisation that is solely focusing on ending the sexual exploitation of children.
ECPAT International advocates for a stronger legal environment to protect children and raises awareness among the public about the issue. They also partner with the private sector to prevent their services from being misused. They conduct research to better understand the issue. And they help survivors and victims come to terms with what has happened while helping them also better understand their rights.
History
The roots of ECPAT go back to a 1990 campaign to end the sexual exploitation of children in Asian tourism. Since then, ECPAT has grown to a worldwide network, with an international secretariat in Bangkok.
